When Sheriff Stilinski tries to find out what is going on in his son’s life he accidentally gets caught up in it, arousing the interest of the alpha pack.
Stiles was dying to tell him about werewolves and everything that had been going down in his life, just to get some of the pressure off his shoulders and feel less bad about having to lie to his father. However, he never did, because no matter how hard it was, he was still convinced that it would ultimately protect him. He wouldn’t have thought that it was that lack of knowledge about what was going on that would get his father into trouble.
While Stiles feels guilty about the fact that his father got something taken from him that Stiles himself wasn’t willing to leave behind his father is relieved about the fact that he not only knows what his son is up to by now, but got gifted with the ability to help him - even if he thinks that Stiles should just have told him.
